I went to Washington, D.C., after the attack on the Capitol had occurred to see for myself history unfolding in the most unnecessary ways.
It felt like a novel I had read—maybe Homeage of Catalonia or Last Call at the Hotel Imperial—but less thrilling and more disappointing.
I am not disappointed in the action, but this occurred in our home. The only other time I saw militaristic behavior in our nation was when I went to South Dakota to document the DAPL protest. The only time I went to our great Capitol was at our lowest point in history. I do hope to go back to see it for what it is meant to be: inspiring.
